Drumdara Fm

Period:
Archean

Age Interval:
Neoarchean (AR? dd), Sh1

Province:
SE Tajik (SW Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Shadarlan and Schugnan ranges.

Delineated by B. Ya. Khorova and K. T. Budanova (1965). Within the volumes accepted in this work, these suites were delineated in 1957-1970 by V. P. Bulin, K. T. Budanova, G. S. Volos, and A. G. Davydchenko during geological mapping. In somewhat different volumes, and sometimes under different names, these suites or those close to them were previously delineated by S. I. Klunnikov, V. A. Maslennikov, and M. I. Rabkin (Geol. USSR, vol. 24, 1959; Barhatov, 1963). This is the uppermost formation in Shakhdaryn Gr

Synonym: Drumdara suite, Друмдаринская свита, Drumdarenskaya suite

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

It completes the section of the Shakhdarinsk Gr. The suite is composed of frequently and evenly alternating biotite, biotite-amphibole, and garnet-biotite gneisses, as well as coarse-banded migmatites. The incomplete thickness of the suite is 1000 m. In it, one finds interlayers of disten-sillimanite gneisses, as well as marbles several to dozens of meters thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Gneiss

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The nature of the initial stratigraphic contact of the Drumdara Fm with the following Alichur Gr of the Lower? Proterozoic remains unknown. The schematic stratigraphic column indicates the lower contact as Wrang Fm

Upper contact

The schematic stratigraphic column indicates the conformable upper contact as Shakhdaryn Gr

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Southwest Pamir.

Fossils

The nature of the initial stratigraphic contact of the Drumdara Fm with the following Alichur Gr of the Lower? Proterozoic remains unknown. In some cases, they are separated by the granitoids of the Shugnan massif, in others - there are fault zones between them, expressed as bands of mylonites up to several hundred meters wide, and the mylonites are "melted" by intrusive granite gneisses and granites.
